P4 Social Studies Project on Malay Heritage, Kampong Glam

Hi parents & children,
I've received the softcopy from Mr Chin as requested.

Social Studies SA1 Informal Assessment (60%) – Project Instructions for pupils:

Objective: To know more about the Malay culture

After your visit to Kampong Glam, you are given the task to tell the rest of the pupils in school about the Malay culture. Design an attractive and informative poster based on any one of the following aspects of the Malay culture:

• Costumes
• Customs and Etiquettes
• Festivals (eg, Hari Raya Haji, Hari Raya Puasa)
• Food (e,g. Nasi Lemak, Nasi Padang)
• Games (e.g, Congkak, Chapteh)
• Musical instruments (e,g, Kompang, Seruling)

Include pictures (taken from your tour or the internet) and type-written write-ups for your poster.

Relevant 2-D objects (e.g, green packets, origami ketupat) can be included to make your poster look really cool. Be creative and enjoy the process of learning. You may visit the SS/NE interest corner (located beside the Malay/Tamil classroom) to look at good samples of projects completed by former P4 pupils.

Deadline for the project: 26 March 2010, Friday

Mode of assessment (60marks) - It comes as a table but I can't have the table in the blog, unable to show tables. So I try my best to list them. I can produce new copies next week if you need a hard copy.

There are 3 categories with 20marks each; Content, Interpretation, Presentation
Marks = 16-20
Content = The content reflects the theme or topic appropriately. There is clear evidence of research or study done.
Interpretation = Information is accurate. There is originality and creativity in design.
Presentation = The layout is visually pleasing and contributes to the overall message with appropriate use of headings, subheadings and white space. All the graphics assist in presenting an overall theme and enhance understanding of information or content.

Marks = 10-15

Content = The content reflects the theme or topic quite appropriately. There is some evidence of research or study done.

Interpretation = Information is mostly accurate. There is some originality and creativity in design
Presentation = The layout shows some structure, but appears to be a little cluttered and busy or distracting with large gaps of white space or uses a distracting background. Most of the graphics assist in presenting an overall theme and enhance understanding of information or content.

Marks = 1-9

Content = The content does not reflect the theme or topic. There is a lack of evidence of research or study done.
Interpretation = Information is partially accurate. There is little originality and creativity in design.
Presentation = The layout is cluttered, confusing, and does not use spacing, headings and subheadings to enhance the readability. The graphics are unrelated to the content and do not show an understanding of the content or information.
